Viitavan

Viitavan is a fictional municipality in the northern Norvale region, designed for encyclopedia-style entries. It lies in a river valley and is surrounded by forests and hills. The area covers about 82 square kilometers and, as of 2023, has an estimated population of around 12,000.

The Viita River threads through the town, historically guiding trade. The built core centers on a market square with timbered houses and a stone church. The local economy combines services, light manufacturing, forestry, and tourism.

In its fictional timeline, Viitavan originated as a medieval trading post along the Viita River and grew with forestry and river commerce. Industrialization in the 19th and 20th centuries expanded the town while preserving much of its historical architecture.

Viitavan is governed by a municipal council and a mayor elected for four-year terms. The town hosts a harvest festival and a weekly market, reflecting its agrarian and craft traditions.

Public services include a library, a secondary school, and a small hospital. Transport is served by a regional railway stop and several bus routes; road connections link Viitavan to neighboring towns.
