Viinirypälesuvun

Viinirypälesuvun refers to the botanical family Vitaceae. This family is primarily known for its woody vines, the most famous member of which is Vitis vinifera, the common grapevine, which is cultivated worldwide for its fruit, used to produce wine, juice, and raisins. The family comprises around 17 genera and over 900 species.

Vitaceae plants are typically climbing or trailing woody vines, often with tendrils that aid in their ascent. Their leaves are usually simple and palmately lobed, though some species have compound leaves. The flowers are small and typically greenish, borne in clusters. The fruit of most Vitaceae species is a berry, with the grape being the most commercially significant example.

While Vitis is the most prominent genus, other genera within Vitaceae include Parthenocissus, known for ornamental vines like Virginia creeper and Boston ivy, and Cissus, which contains numerous species of ornamental and some edible vines. The family is distributed across tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions of the world. The economic importance of Vitaceae is largely due to the cultivation of grapes for food and beverages, but its ornamental value is also significant.
