Videography

Videography is the practice of recording moving images for a range of purposes, from events and journalism to corporate communications and online media. It covers the full lifecycle of video production, including planning, shooting, editing, and distribution. While cinematography emphasizes artistry and lighting on film sets, videography tends to focus on practical coverage, reliability, and clear storytelling in real time or near real time.

Equipment and techniques: A videographer may work with dedicated video cameras, reflectors, lighting kits, wireless audio, stabilizers, drones, and smartphones. Important considerations include image quality, resolution, frame rate, and color space; lens choice and depth of field; camera movement such as pans, tilts, and tracking shots; and audio capture. Planning and shot composition, shot lists, and B-roll strategies improve efficiency.

Workflow typically includes pre-production planning, location scouting and scripting; production shooting; and post-production editing, color correction, audio dubbing, and mastering; with versioning for different platforms.

Since the digital era began, videography shifted from analog tape to digital formats, with camcorders and consumer cameras expanding access; smartphones and online platforms further broadened reach and use.
