Viadrina

The Viadrina, officially known as the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), is a public university located in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany. It was founded in 1991, making it one of the youngest universities in Brandenburg. The university is named after the Roman name for the Oder River, which forms the border between Germany and Poland.

Viadrina focuses on interdisciplinary studies with a strong international orientation. Its three faculties are Business Administration and Economics, Cultural Studies, and Law. The university emphasizes research and teaching in areas relevant to European integration and transboundary cooperation. It is known for its programs in economics, law, and cultural sciences, often with a focus on Eastern European studies.

A distinctive feature of Viadrina is its close cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. This cross-border partnership led to the establishment of the Collegium Polonicum, a joint research and teaching institution located in Słubice, Poland, just across the river from Frankfurt (Oder). This collaboration fosters a unique academic environment and promotes understanding between Germany and Poland.
