Veyrin

Veyrin is a city-state located on the southern shore of the Azure Sea in the fictional realm of Eldara. It is known as a maritime and commercial hub with a historic walled core and a natural deepwater harbor that accommodates large ships.

The city sits at the mouth of the Teral River, with a hilly hinterland and a temperate climate, featuring mild winters and warm summers.

Veyrin began as a trading outpost in the late 9th century, attained city-state status after a charter in 1123, and rose to regional prominence during the late medieval period as a commercial hub. It weathered pirate incursions and factional strife in the early modern era and joined the Eldaran maritime confederation in the 17th century.

Veyrin is governed by the Veill Council, a twelve-member body elected by citizens, with a mayor serving as the head of government. The economy centers on the port, timber, wine, and spice trades, supported by shipbuilding and a small financial sector.

The urban fabric blends stone plazas, arcaded streets, and timber-framed houses. Education thrives at the University of Veyrin, founded in 1485, with programs in navigation, law, and astronomy. Cultural life centers on the Moonfall Festival and a guild-sponsored maritime arts scene.

Notable people include Mara Qel, a navigator, and Yorin Valen, a poet.
