Veyr

Veyr is a coastal town and municipality in the eastern coast of Valoria. It lies along a sheltered harbour at the mouth of the Veyr River and serves as the administrative center for the surrounding rural area. The name derives from the Valorian language, meaning 'harbor gate.'

The town covers about 22 square kilometers and features a natural harbor, low cliffs, and mixed-use districts. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cool summers and rainfall distributed throughout the year.

Archaeological finds indicate settlement since the early medieval period. A stone fortress built in the 12th century protected the harbor. In the 19th century Veyr developed as a regional fishing and trading hub, aided by harbor expansion and a short railway line to inland towns.

As of 2021, the municipality had an estimated population of around 7,400. The local economy centers on fishing, seafood processing, and small manufacturing, with tourism increasing in summer. The surrounding countryside supports orchards.

Notable landmarks include the Veyr Lighthouse, the Harbor Gate ruin, and the Market Hall dating from the 17th century. The town hosts an annual Festival of the Tides with traditional music, seafood tastings, and maritime demonstrations.

Veyr is governed by a mayor and a 12-member municipal council elected for four-year terms. It is part of Valorian Province and maintains cooperative ties with neighboring municipalities.
