Vesivõrgustikud, commonly translated as water networks or water supply systems, are the interconnected infrastructure responsible for delivering potable water to homes, businesses, and public spaces, and for collecting and transporting wastewater for treatment. These systems are vital for public health, sanitation, and economic development.

A typical water supply network consists of a source, such as a river, lake, or groundwater aquifer, from which water is abstracted. This raw water is then treated at a water treatment plant to remove impurities and make it safe for consumption. The treated water is then pumped into a distribution network of pipes, reservoirs, and pumping stations, which delivers it to consumers under sufficient pressure.

Wastewater collection networks, also known as sewerage systems, are designed to remove used water and stormwater from urban areas. This wastewater is transported through a separate network of underground pipes, often relying on gravity but sometimes requiring pumping stations, to a wastewater treatment plant. At the treatment plant, pollutants are removed before the treated water is discharged back into the environment.

The design, construction, and maintenance of vesivõrgustikud are complex and require careful planning to ensure reliability, efficiency, and compliance with environmental regulations. Challenges include aging infrastructure, increasing demand, water scarcity, and the need to adapt to climate change.
