Verokrediitit, often translated as tax credits, are a mechanism used by governments to reduce the amount of income tax a person or business owes. Unlike tax deductions, which reduce taxable income, tax credits directly reduce the tax liability dollar for dollar. This means a $1,000 tax credit will reduce your tax bill by $1,000, whereas a $1,000 tax deduction will only reduce your tax bill by the amount of your marginal tax rate multiplied by $1,000.
