Vernebelungstherapie, also known as nebulizer therapy, is a medical treatment that delivers medication in a mist form directly to the lungs. This method is particularly effective for respiratory conditions where inhaled medication is required to reach the airways and alveoli. The core of the therapy involves a nebulizer machine, which converts a liquid medication into a fine aerosol or mist. This mist is then inhaled by the patient through a mouthpiece or a mask.

The primary advantage of vernebelungstherapie is its ability to deliver medication precisely to the site of action, the lungs. This allows for a rapid onset of action and can minimize systemic side effects compared to oral medications.
