The core principle is to create a boundary that restricts unauthorized access and traffic flow, thereby enhancing the overall security posture of an organization's IT infrastructure.

Physically, a verkkohäkki can be a secured room or cabinet housing sensitive network equipment such as servers, routers, and firewalls.
