Verenlipidiprofiili

Verenlipidiprofiili, often referred to as a lipid panel or cholesterol test, is a blood test that measures the amounts of certain lipids in the blood. Lipids are fatty substances that are essential for the body's function, but high levels of certain lipids can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. The standard verenlipidiprofiili typically includes measurements of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides.

Total cholesterol is the sum of all cholesterol in the blood, including LDL and HDL. LDL cholesterol, often called "bad" cholesterol, can build up in the arteries, forming plaque and narrowing the blood vessels. HDL cholesterol, considered "good" cholesterol, helps remove LDL cholesterol from the arteries. A verenlipidiprofiili is usually performed as part of a routine physical examination or when an individual has risk factors for heart disease, such as a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, or a history of smoking. The results of the test help healthcare providers assess an individual's risk of developing heart disease and guide treatment decisions, which may include lifestyle modifications like diet and exercise, or medication. Fasting is typically required before the test to ensure accurate triglyceride measurements.
