Verdenskrigene, a Danish term meaning "World Wars," refers to the two major global conflicts that took place in the 20th century. The First World War, often called the Great War, occurred from 1914 to 1918. It involved the vast majority of the world's countries, including all of the great powers, assembled in two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Central Powers. The conflict resulted in an estimated 20 million military and civilian deaths and led to significant political, social, and economic changes across the globe.
