Venösnäytteen

Venösnäytteen, commonly referred to as a venous blood sample, is a procedure where blood is drawn from a vein. This is a routine diagnostic test performed in medical settings to analyze various components of the blood. The most common site for venipuncture is the median cubital vein in the antecubital fossa of the arm, due to its accessibility and size.

Before the procedure, the phlebotomist, a trained healthcare professional, will identify a suitable vein. The skin over the vein is then cleaned with an antiseptic wipe. A tourniquet may be applied above the venipuncture site to make the veins more prominent. A sterile needle is then inserted into the vein, and blood is collected into one or more specialized collection tubes. These tubes often contain anticoagulants or other additives depending on the specific tests ordered.

Once the required amount of blood is collected, the needle is withdrawn, and pressure is applied to the puncture site with a sterile gauze pad to stop bleeding. A bandage is typically applied afterward. The collected blood sample is then labeled and sent to a laboratory for analysis.
