Ventileringsförfarande refers to the systematic process of exchanging indoor air with outdoor air. This is a crucial aspect of building design and maintenance, aiming to maintain good indoor air quality, control humidity, and manage temperature. The primary goal is to remove stale air, pollutants, and excess moisture while supplying fresh, clean air.

There are several types of ventileringsförfarande. Natural ventilation relies on natural forces like wind pressure and the stack effect (warm air rising) to move air through openings such as windows and doors. Mechanical ventilation uses fans and ductwork to actively draw in outdoor air and expel indoor air, offering more control over airflow rates. Balanced ventilation systems, often mechanical, use both supply and exhaust fans to ensure equal amounts of air are brought in and removed, sometimes incorporating heat recovery to pre-condition the incoming air using the outgoing air's thermal energy. Exhaust ventilation specifically removes air from areas like bathrooms and kitchens where moisture and odors are concentrated.
