Velocimetry refers to the measurement and analysis of velocity fields within a fluid or gas flow, typically used in fluid dynamics and aerodynamics. The term encompasses various techniques designed to capture and quantify the motion of particles or fluid elements over time. These methods are essential in both research and industrial applications, such as aerospace engineering, automotive design, and environmental studies, where understanding flow behavior is critical.

One of the most common velocimetry techniques is Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), which uses laser sheets and high-speed cameras to track the movement of tiny tracer particles seeded in the flow.
