Velayudham

Velayudham is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language action film directed by M. Raja and produced by AGS Entertainment. The film stars Vijay in a dual role as Velayudham and his lookalike, soothsayer Thoothu. The cast also includes Hansika Motwani and Genelia D'Souza in the female lead roles, with Santhanam and Saranya Mohan in supporting roles. The music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad.

The story revolves around Velayudham, a villager who is initially reluctant to get involved in social issues. However, when his village faces exploitation and injustice from a corrupt politician and his henchmen, Velayudham is forced to take a stand. His parallel life as a soothsayer, Thoothu, who uses his predictions to subtly influence events, adds a unique dimension to his fight against evil. The film explores themes of justice, courage, and the responsibility of individuals to protect their community.

Velayudham was released on Diwali, November 10, 2011, and received generally positive reviews, with praise for Vijay's performance, the action sequences, and the screenplay. The film was a commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year. It was also remade in Bengali as Poran Jaye Jolia Re.
