Vektoriseerimiseks, also known as vectorization, is a computational technique used in various fields, particularly in computer graphics and mathematics. It refers to the process of converting raster graphics into vector graphics. Raster graphics, also known as bitmap images, are composed of a grid of pixels, while vector graphics are defined by mathematical equations that describe lines, curves, and shapes.

The primary advantage of vectorization is that vector graphics can be scaled to any size without loss of quality, whereas raster images become pixelated when enlarged. This makes vectorization crucial for applications like logo design, illustration, and technical drawing, where scalability and crisp lines are essential.

In image processing, vectorization algorithms analyze the pixel data of a raster image to identify edges and contours. These identified features are then represented as mathematical descriptions, such as Bézier curves or polygons. Specialized software tools are commonly employed to perform this conversion. The accuracy and quality of the vectorization depend on the complexity of the original raster image and the sophistication of the algorithm used.

Beyond graphics, vectorization also applies to numerical computations, especially in programming. It involves transforming operations that are performed element by element on arrays or matrices into operations that act on entire arrays or matrices simultaneously. This can significantly speed up calculations by leveraging optimized hardware instructions, such as those found in modern CPUs and GPUs, leading to more efficient code execution.
