Veebifoorumite

Veebifoorumite is a rare mineral species discovered in 2018, characterized by its unique crystal structure and properties. It was first identified in a remote location in Africa, where it occurred as a secondary formation in hydrothermal veins.

Chemically, veebifoorumite is classified as a phosphate mineral, with the chemical formula Ca8(Mn,Mg)3(PO4)6(OH)8(H2O). It is one of the few minerals in the phosphate group to also contain water in its crystal lattice. The mineral has a hexagonal crystal system, with a unique combination of manganese and magnesium ions in its structure.

Veebifoorumite is typically found in association with other phosphate and silicate minerals, often in areas with a history of high-temperature hydrothermal activity. Its crystal form is often described as long, prismatic needles or tabular crystals, sometimes exhibiting a sparkling appearance due to its high water content.

Roughly 50 specimens of veebifoorumite have been documented, with a majority of them being small-scale discoveries. The isolated locations of these finds are thought to be due to factors such as harsh environmental conditions and limited geological access. To date, no significant commercial mining of veebifoorumite has been reported.

Veebifoorumite's rare occurrence in nature and relatively unique chemical composition contribute to its interest among mineralogists and collectors. Further research continues to uncover more information about the properties and history of veebifoorumite.
