Each method has its advantages and disadvantages concerning effectiveness, cost, and potential byproducts.

For wastewater treatment, additional processes like biological treatment are employed, utilizing microorganisms to break down organic pollutants. Advanced treatment techniques may include ion exchange for removing specific dissolved ions or activated carbon adsorption for removing dissolved organic compounds and improving taste and odor.
