Vedeks

Vedeks are priests of the Bajoran Faith, the state religion of Bajor as depicted in the Star Trek universe. They serve as spiritual leaders, counselors, and ritual specialists for Bajoran communities, interpreting the will of the Prophets and guiding adherents in matters of faith, morality, and daily life. The title is used for both male and female members of the Bajoran priesthood, and the order is organized under the Vedek Assembly, with the Kai acting as the supreme spiritual leader of Bajor.

Role and duties

Vedeks officiate religious ceremonies such as births, marriages, and funerals, and oversee rites associated with sacred times and festivals. They provide counsel to individuals and communities, help resolve disputes through spiritual and ethical guidance, and interpret Bajoran scripture and prophetic messages. In addition to temple duties, some Vedeks serve as educators, mentors, or mediators, and they may be assigned to specific temples, parishes, or mission outposts across Bajor.

Organization and path

Candidates typically undergo extensive training within the Vedek Order. Upon completion, they may be ordained as Vedeks and take vows of service to the Bajoran Faith. The most senior Vedek can become the Kai, the head of the Bajoran religion, a role that traditionally wields significant influence over both spiritual and, at times, political matters.
