Vattenförsörjningsorganen refers to the various institutions and bodies responsible for the provision and management of water supply systems. In Sweden, these are primarily municipal waterworks, often operated by the local municipality or through a municipal company. Their core function is to abstract raw water, treat it to meet drinking water standards, and distribute it to consumers through a network of pipes.

These organizations are governed by national legislation, including the Swedish Water Act (Vattenlagen) and the Environmental Code (Miljöbalken), which set standards for water quality, abstraction, and wastewater discharge. They also adhere to EU directives concerning drinking water quality. The municipalities are ultimately responsible for ensuring that their residents have access to safe and sufficient drinking water, and they delegate the operational tasks to their respective water supply organs.

This involves managing sewage systems and operating wastewater treatment plants to remove pollutants before discharging the treated water back into the environment.
