Vashishtha is a revered sage in ancient Indian tradition, most prominently featured in the Hindu epic the Ramayana. He is depicted as the principal guru of the Ikshvaku dynasty, which ruled Ayodhya. Vashishtha is credited with being the author of the seventh mandala of the Rigveda, a collection of ancient Indian hymns. His ashram, or hermitage, was a center of learning and spiritual wisdom.
