Varieeruvused

Varieeruvused refers to patterns of color variation that appear within an organism, most commonly observed in plants but also occurring in animals. In botany, variegation describes leaves, stems, or fruits that show irregular patches or zones of different colors, typically due to uneven distribution of chlorophyll and other pigments. Varieeruvused can be stable in a lineage or occur as temporary, developing patterns.

In plants, variegation is commonly categorized by its appearance and origin. Mosaic variegation presents as random patches of green and white or yellow; sectorial or mericlinal variegation involves distinct colored sectors that follow tissue boundaries; striped or edged patterns run along the margins or veins. Some variegation is caused by chimerism, where two or more genotypes occupy different layers of a plant’s tissues, while others result from mutations in chloroplast or nuclear genes. Environmental factors such as light intensity can influence pigment expression, but stable variegation is usually genetic or developmental.

Causes of varieeruvused include genetic mutations, somatic mosaicism, and, in some cases, viral infections that alter pigment production. Variegation can be inherited in certain cultivars or arise spontaneously. Propagation often relies on cuttings from the variegated part of a plant, though stability can vary; some lineages revert to green generation to generation if green tissue outcompetes pigmented sectors.

In animals, variegation appears as color patterning such as brindling or piebalding, resulting from uneven pigment cell distribution or genetic mosaicism. Varieeruvused are valued in horticulture and animal breeding for aesthetic appeal, but may involve trade-offs in vigor or camouflage.
