Varapyörä

Varapyörä is a Finnish term that translates to "spare tire" in English. It refers to an emergency tire carried in a vehicle to replace a flat or damaged tire. Historically, most vehicles came equipped with a full-size spare tire. However, in recent years, many manufacturers have opted to include a smaller, temporary spare tire, often called a "donut" spare, to save space and weight. Some modern vehicles are even being produced without a spare tire at all, relying instead on tire repair kits or run-flat tires.

The purpose of a varapyörä is to allow a driver to safely reach a repair shop or a location where a permanent repair can be made. Temporary spare tires are not designed for long-term use or high speeds. They typically have a lower speed rating and a shorter recommended driving distance than a standard tire. It is crucial for drivers to be aware of the limitations of their varapyörä and to replace it with a full-size tire as soon as possible. Checking the air pressure in the spare tire regularly is also important, as it may sit unused for extended periods.
