Vaqqs

Vaqqs is a fictional species from the speculative evolution project "Project Valdoria." In this project, Vaqqs are depicted as a large, herbivorous quadrupedal mammal that inhabits the temperate grasslands of Valdoria. They are characterized by their thick, shaggy fur, which provides insulation against the often-harsh climate, and their broad, flat teeth adapted for grinding tough vegetation. Their coloration typically ranges from earthy browns to grays, offering camouflage within their environment.

Physically, Vaqqs are robust creatures, standing around two meters tall at the shoulder and weighing several hundred kilograms. They possess a distinctive pair of short, curved horns on their heads, which are primarily used for intraspecific displays and defense against smaller predators. Their social structure is generally herd-based, with individuals forming loose groups for protection and foraging. Communication within these herds is thought to involve a combination of vocalizations and body language.

The life cycle of a Vaqq involves a gestation period of approximately ten months, resulting in a single offspring. Young Vaqqs are precocial, able to stand and walk shortly after birth, and remain dependent on their mothers for milk and protection for roughly a year. Their diet consists mainly of grasses, sedges, and other low-lying vegetation, making them an important component of the Valdoria ecosystem, influencing plant growth and providing a food source for larger carnivores.
