Valuuttaparikauppa, also known as forex trading, is the practice of buying and selling national currencies with the goal of profiting from changes in their relative values. It is the largest and most liquid financial market in the world, with trillions of dollars traded daily. In a currency pair, one currency is bought while the other is sold simultaneously. For example, in the EUR/USD pair, a trader might buy Euros and sell US Dollars if they believe the Euro will strengthen against the Dollar.

Forex trading operates on a decentralized over-the-counter (OTC) market, meaning transactions occur directly between two parties without a central exchange. This allows trading to occur 24 hours a day, five days a week, starting Sunday evening in New York and closing Friday afternoon. Major trading centers include London, New York, Tokyo, and Sydney.

Currency values fluctuate due to a variety of factors, including economic indicators such as inflation rates, interest rates, and unemployment figures, as well as political events and geopolitical stability. Traders analyze these factors using technical analysis, which involves studying price charts and patterns, and fundamental analysis, which focuses on economic and political news.

The primary participants in the forex market include large financial institutions, central banks, hedge funds, and individual retail traders. Leverage is a common feature of forex trading, allowing traders to control a larger position with a smaller amount of capital. However, leverage also amplifies both potential profits and losses.
