Valtimotukoksilla

Valtimotukoksilla, also known as endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) or stent grafting, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). An AAA is a localized enlargement of the abdominal aorta that poses a risk of rupture if left untreated. Valtimotukoksilla involves inserting a stent graft through small incisions in the groin area, guided into the affected section of the aorta using imaging techniques such as fluoroscopy.

The procedure begins with the placement of a catheter into the femoral arteries. A guidewire is advanced to the site of the aneurysm, over which a stent graft—a fabric-covered metal spring—is positioned to reinforce the weakened arterial wall. Once properly deployed, the stent graft creates a new route for blood flow, effectively excluding the aneurysm from circulation and reducing the risk of rupture.

Potential risks of the procedure include bleeding, infection, endoleaks (persistent blood flow into the aneurysm sac), and damage to blood vessels. Long-term follow-up with imaging is necessary to monitor the success of the repair and detect any complications.
