Valdrian is a fictional planet used as a setting in science fiction literature and media. It is located in the distant Valdrian Expanse, beyond the outer edge of the known galactic core. The planet is predominantly terrestrial, with a temperate climate and oceans covering about two-thirds of its surface. It has three major landmasses and numerous archipelagos, with features such as the Serene Sea to the east and the Brine Strait to the south. The atmosphere supports auroral displays and relatively mild seismic activity along regional belts.

History: Valdrian was settled by seafaring cultures in antiquity, later forming the Helion Confederacy, a loose alliance that unified parts of the planet. After centuries of fragmentation, Valdrian established the Valdrian Federation, a federal republic, in the 22nd century, and has since pursued technological development, environmental management, and interstellar outreach.

Politics: The Federation comprises autonomous provinces and two city-states. The federal capital is Lysara. The government is a parliamentary democracy with a president serving as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The legislature is bicameral: the Senate and the Chamber of Nations.

Economy: The economy is diversified, anchored by renewable energy technologies—tidal and geothermal—plus advanced materials, agriculture, and services in information processing. Valdrian maintains trade links with neighboring systems and emphasizes sustainable development.

Culture and society: Valdrian hosts multilingual communities, with the common language Valdrian and regional dialects. Education and scientific research receive strong public support. Notable sites include the Ring City of Lysara, the Verdant Archive, and the Tide Towers.
