Vakuuskiinnityksiä, known in English as vacuum clamping or vacuum fixturing, refers to a method of holding and positioning workpieces for machining, assembly, or other manufacturing processes using atmospheric pressure. This technique relies on creating a partial vacuum between a clamping device and the surface of the workpiece. The difference in pressure between the outside atmosphere and the vacuum inside the clamp generates a force that holds the workpiece securely in place.

The core principle of vakuuskiinnityksiä involves a sealed surface that creates an airtight chamber. When a vacuum pump is connected to this chamber, air is removed, lowering the internal pressure. The external atmospheric pressure then pushes down on the workpiece, pressing it against the clamping surface. This holding force can be substantial and is often sufficient for many common manufacturing operations.
