Vaivarta

Vaivarta is a term that primarily refers to the "Vaivarta Purana," one of the eighteen major Puranas in Hinduism. The Vaivarta Purana is a voluminous Sanskrit text that focuses on the worship of Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, and his consort Radha. It is considered one of the later Puranas and is known for its detailed narratives and theological expositions concerning Vaishnavism, the tradition that venerates Vishnu.

The text is traditionally divided into four "khandas" or sections: the Brahma Khanda, the Prakriti Khanda, the Ganesha Khanda, and the Krishna Khanda. Each section elaborates on different aspects of divine cosmology, mythology, and philosophical teachings, with a strong emphasis on the glorification of Krishna and his divine sports (lilas). The Ganesha Khanda, in particular, is significant for its detailed account of the birth and exploits of the elephant-headed god Ganesha.

The Vaivarta Purana is a rich source for understanding the devotional practices and theological doctrines prevalent in certain branches of Hinduism, particularly those that emphasize the supremacy of Krishna.
