Vaihdenhallintajärjestelmä, often abbreviated as VHJ, refers to systems designed to manage and control gear shifting in vehicles, particularly in manual transmission vehicles. These systems automate or assist the driver in the process of changing gears, aiming to improve efficiency, performance, and driving comfort. In simpler terms, it's a way to make changing gears easier or even automatic.

The core function of a vaihdenhallintajärjestelmä is to disengage the clutch, select the appropriate gear, and then re-engage the clutch. This process can be fully automated, as seen in automatic transmissions, or semi-automated, where the driver initiates the shift but the system handles the clutch and gear selection.
