Vaelith is a fictional city-state in the fantasy setting of Eldara. It sits in a temperate valley along the Vael River, protected by surrounding hills and connected to regional trade routes by road and canal. The city serves as a political and economic hub for the Vaelian Confederacy, hosting a range of guilds, academies, and workshops.

The name Vaelith is of uncertain origin within the lore, commonly linked to early Vaelian dialects meaning "shadowed hill" or "stone by the water." The city’s history centers on trade and craft, with periods of external pressure from rival states and internal reforms that strengthened merchant governance.

Vaelith is governed by a Council of Nine, composed of leaders from the largest guilds, assisted by a ceremonial Duke who represents the confederacy in ceremonial matters. Real political power rests with the council, which approves finance, law, and major infrastructure projects. The city maintains a tradition of legal neutrality in regional conflicts.
