Vaelins

Vaelins are a fictional humanoid people described in fantasy and speculative fiction. They inhabit the cavern networks and highland plateaus of the continent of Moravia, where the landscape is defined by mineral veins and subterranean rivers.

Physically, Vaelins are slender and tall, averaging 1.6 to 1.9 meters. Their skin bears bioluminescent patterns that shift with mood and health, providing light in dark tunnels. Eyes adapted to dim light are large, and their fingers are long and precise, suited to delicate stonework.

Society is organized around city-states led by an Elders Council. Apprenticeship in mining, gem-cutting, and luminescent artistry is central to Vaelin culture.

Economy centers on mining, refining metals, carving crystal works, and trading with surface civilizations. Technologies include percussion and resonance-based mining tools, water-driven mills, and architecture that uses vaulted stone and crystalline light conduits.

History describes the Vaelins as emerging from the Great Vein, with a tradition of subterranean city-building over the past millennia. They maintain cautious diplomatic relations with nearby surface realms and sometimes participate in interregional trade, especially copper, quartz, and carved gems.
