VBACi is a term that refers to a vaginal birth after Cesarean delivery that occurs in a hospital setting. It is a planned vaginal birth, meaning the individual has chosen to attempt a vaginal delivery after a previous Cesarean section, and the birth is taking place within a medical facility. This distinction is important as it separates it from a VBA2C (vaginal birth after two Cesarean deliveries) or a planned home VBAC, which may involve different considerations and risks.

The decision to attempt a VBACi is made by the individual in consultation with their healthcare provider. There are potential benefits to a successful VBACi, including a shorter recovery time, reduced risk of infection, and avoidance of the potential complications associated with repeat Cesarean surgery. However, there are also risks associated with VBACi, most notably the risk of uterine rupture, a rare but serious complication where the scar from the previous Cesarean delivery tears open. Other risks can include prolonged labor and the possibility of an emergency repeat Cesarean.

Healthcare providers evaluate a patient's suitability for VBACi based on several factors, including the reason for the previous Cesarean, the type of uterine incision made, and the presence of any medical conditions that might contraindicate a vaginal birth.
