Vågoscillatorer, often translated as wave oscillators, are electronic circuits designed to generate continuous, repeating waveforms. These waveforms can take various forms, including sinusoidal, square, triangular, or sawtooth shapes. The fundamental principle behind a wave oscillator is positive feedback, where a portion of the output signal is fed back to the input in such a way that it reinforces the original signal, causing sustained oscillations.

The frequency of oscillation in a wave oscillator is determined by the characteristics of its components, particularly reactive elements like capacitors and inductors. These components, along with active elements such as transistors or operational amplifiers, form a resonant circuit or an amplifier with a frequency-determining network. When the circuit's gain is sufficient to overcome losses and the phase shift around the feedback loop is 0 or 360 degrees at a specific frequency, oscillations begin and are sustained at that frequency.
