Utrustningstider, commonly referred to in Swedish as "equipment times," refer to the designated periods during a sports match, particularly in football (soccer), when players are allowed to make substitutions. These intervals are regulated by the rules of the game and are intended to allow teams to strategically replace players for tactical, physical, or motivational reasons.

In most professional football leagues, including those governed by FIFA, each team is permitted to make a maximum of five substitutions per match, with the possibility of an additional substitution in extra time or penalty shootouts. The substitution periods themselves are not strictly timed but occur during natural breaks in play, such as stoppages for injuries, time-wasting, or other interruptions. However, the term "utrustningstider" can sometimes colloquially describe the brief moments when players leave and re-enter the field, often coinciding with stoppages in the game.

The rules for substitutions were introduced to enhance the flow of the game while allowing coaches to adapt their tactics based on the match’s progression. Before the introduction of substitutions, players were required to remain on the field until the match concluded, which could lead to fatigue and reduced performance. The modern substitution system balances competitive fairness with the need for player management.

In some contexts, particularly in youth or amateur leagues, substitution rules may vary, allowing for more or fewer changes depending on the governing body’s regulations. Coaches must also adhere to the rules regarding when substitutions can be made, ensuring they do not occur during a direct free kick, goal kick, throw-in, or corner kick unless play has been stopped for another reason. The strategic use of substitutions remains a key aspect of team management in football.
