Utgangsinnsatsen

Utgangsinnsatsen is a term used in Norwegian social research to describe the level of effort a person makes to leave the home and participate in activities outside it. The word blends utgang, meaning going out, and innsatsen, meaning the effort or input, and it is used to capture not just whether a person goes out, but how much motivation, energy, and deliberate action underlie that behavior.

In practice, utgangsinnsatsen is considered part of the broader concept of social participation and autonomy. It may be assessed through self-report scales that ask about motivation to go out, perceived barriers, energy levels, and the frequency of actual outings, or through informant- or observer-rated items. Researchers may examine utgangsinnsatsen alongside variables such as social activity, mobility, and access to transportation.
