Usaldusteenused, often translated as trust services, are a crucial component of secure digital interactions within the European Union. They are regulated by the eIDAS Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 910/2014), which establishes a framework for electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market. The primary goal of usaldusteenused is to ensure the legality and security of electronic transactions by providing reliable mechanisms for verifying identities, ensuring the integrity of data, and facilitating secure communication.

Key usaldusteenused include electronic signatures, electronic seals, time stamps, electronic registered delivery services, and services related to website authentication. Electronic signatures provide a way to confirm the authenticity and integrity of electronic documents, akin to a handwritten signature. Electronic seals offer similar assurances for legal persons or public authorities, ensuring the origin and integrity of data. Time stamps provide irrefutable evidence of the time at which a specific document or data set existed. Electronic registered delivery services offer a secure method for sending and receiving electronic documents, providing proof of dispatch and receipt. Website authentication services verify the identity of a website, assuring users that they are interacting with a legitimate entity.

These services are provided by trust service providers (TSPs) who are supervised and regulated. Qualified trust service providers (QTSPs) adhere to the strictest requirements and their services are considered equivalent to traditional paper-based methods, offering a high level of legal certainty across all EU member states.
