Etymology: The word appears to derive from the root for urine, combined with a medical suffix indicating inflammation, though this construction is not widely adopted in medical nomenclature.

Signs and symptoms: Patients may report dysuria, increased urinary frequency or urgency, suprapubic pain, hematuria, and sometimes fever or malaise if infection is present. Symptoms overlap with cystitis or urethritis.

Causes and pathophysiology: Uriinieritus may result from infectious causes such as bacterial urinary tract infections, viral or fungal infections, or from noninfectious irritation by chemicals, stones, dehydration, or prolonged catheterization. Distinction from specific entities such as cystitis, urethritis, or pyelonephritis depends on location and cause.
