Urheilukiipeily
Urheilukiipeily, often referred to as sport climbing, is a modern form of rock climbing where the route is protected by pre-placed bolts. Climbers ascend rock faces using ropes and harnesses, clipping into these bolts for safety as they ascend. Unlike traditional climbing, where climbers place their own protection as they go, sport climbing focuses on the physical and mental challenge of ascending a pre-defined route with established anchor points.
The sport originated in the late 1970s and early 1980s in Europe, evolving from traditional climbing techniques.
