Urengoykenttä
Urengoykenttä, also known as the Urengoy gas field, is a major natural gas field located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of Russia, on the West Siberian Plain near the town of Urengoy. It ranks among the largest gas fields in the world and has been a central asset in Russia’s natural gas industry. The field was discovered in 1966 and brought into production in the early 1970s as part of the Soviet program to develop vast gas reserves. Its scale and location helped spur the construction of significant export infrastructure, most notably the Urengoy–Pomary–Uzhhorod pipeline, which linked Siberian gas with European markets.
Reserves are estimated to be substantial, with the field contributing a large share of Gazprom’s gas production.
