Unterbiss
Unterbiss refers to a dental malocclusion where the lower teeth extend forward beyond the upper teeth when the mouth is closed. This condition is also commonly known as an underbite or prognathism. It can affect both the appearance of the face and the function of the jaw. The underlying cause of an unterbiss is often a discrepancy in the growth of the upper and lower jaws, with the lower jaw growing more or the upper jaw growing less. Genetics plays a significant role in its development. In some cases, environmental factors such as prolonged thumb-sucking or pacifier use during childhood can also contribute.
The consequences of an unterbiss can vary. Some individuals may experience difficulties with chewing, speaking, and
