Unitswhile is a term used in discussions of unit-aware programming languages to describe a loop construct that bases its iteration on a quantity carrying physical units. The construct combines a while-like condition with automatic unit handling, so that loop termination depends on a measurement expressed in units rather than an abstract integer counter. The design aims to prevent unit errors inside loops by enforcing dimensional consistency and performing necessary unit conversions when evaluating conditions and updating state.

In operation, a unitswhile loop checks a unit-bearing expression at the start of each iteration. The loop body may update the quantity through arithmetic that also carries units; the language type system or runtime ensures that units are compatible and will convert to a common unit for comparison. The loop terminates when the quantity reaches zero or a non-positive value, or if a result is not a finite number.
