UniPort

UniPort, short for the University of Port Harcourt, is a public research university located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. It was established by the federal government in 1975 to broaden higher education access in the Niger Delta region. The university began teaching soon after and operates under a centralized governance system comprising a Vice-Chancellor, a Senate and a Governing Council.

Its main campus is situated in the Choba area of Port Harcourt, with additional facilities on the Port Harcourt campus and related teaching hospital sites. The institution hosts the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), a key clinical training center for medical and allied health programs. The campus includes libraries, laboratories, housing, and research centers.

UniPort offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across several faculties, including the humanities and social sciences, natural and applied sciences, engineering, medicine and health sciences, management sciences, and law. All programs are subject to accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the university participates in national and international collaborations and exchange programs. Research at UniPort covers areas such as health, energy, environment, and technology, with a focus on socio-economic development in the region.

The university is engaged in community outreach, staff and student development, and cultural and sporting activities. It is a member of networks such as the Association of Commonwealth Universities and engages with industry and government partners to support education and research.
