Unevidence

Unevidence refers to the absence of evidence, or a lack of proof for something. It is a concept that arises in various fields, including philosophy, law, and science, where the burden of proof often rests on those making a claim. The principle of "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" is frequently cited in discussions of unevidence, suggesting that simply not finding proof for something does not automatically mean it does not exist. However, the strength of this argument can vary depending on the context and the thoroughness of the search for evidence.

In legal proceedings, unevidence can be significant. For instance, if a prosecutor fails to present sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, a defendant may be acquitted.
