Ultrtraditionalism is a political and cultural philosophy that advocates for a strict return to traditional values, institutions, and social structures, often rejecting modernity and progressive change. It emphasizes the preservation of historical customs, religious doctrine, and hierarchical social orders as foundational to societal stability and moral order. While traditionalism generally seeks to maintain traditional ways of life, ultrtraditionalism takes a more rigid stance, frequently opposing even moderate reforms or adaptations to contemporary conditions.

The movement draws inspiration from a variety of historical and religious traditions, including medieval Christian Europe, pre-modern Islamic societies, and pre-colonial African or Asian cultures. It often critiques secularism, liberal democracy, individualism, and globalization as corrosive forces that undermine natural social bonds and moral authority. Supporters argue that these changes have led to social decay, moral relativism, and the erosion of collective identity.

Ultrtraditionalist thought is prominent in certain religious and political circles, particularly among conservative factions within Christianity, Islam, and other faiths. It has influenced movements such as the Catholic Traditionalist movement, which opposes the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) and modern interpretations of Catholic doctrine, as well as some strands of Islamic revivalism that seek to restore pre-modern legal and social frameworks. In political terms, ultrtraditionalism can align with authoritarian or monarchist systems, viewing strong leadership as necessary to uphold traditional norms.

Critics of ultrtraditionalism argue that its rigid adherence to the past can be inflexible in the face of social progress, human rights advancements, or scientific discovery. They often contend that while tradition provides cultural continuity, unchecked ultrtraditionalism can stifle innovation, perpetuate inequality, and resist necessary adaptations to changing circumstances.
