Ultrahelisagedusega refers to sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing. This limit is typically considered to be around 20 kilohertz (20,000 Hz). Therefore, ultrasound encompasses frequencies above this threshold. While humans cannot hear these sounds, many animals, such as dogs and bats, can perceive and utilize them.

The applications of ultrasound are vast and diverse. In medicine, it is used for diagnostic imaging, such as in prenatal scans and echocardiograms, due to its ability to penetrate tissues and reflect off different structures, creating detailed images. Therapeutic ultrasound is employed to treat muscle injuries, promote healing, and in some cases, break up kidney stones.

It is used for non-destructive testing to detect flaws in materials, for cleaning delicate objects, and in sonar systems for navigation and object detection underwater.
