Ulträänisovellukset refers to the diverse applications of ultrasound technology. Ultrasound, defined as sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper limit of human hearing, typically above 20 kHz, is utilized in numerous fields due to its unique properties.

In medicine, diagnostic ultrasound, or sonography, is a cornerstone. It uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of internal body structures, playing a crucial role in obstetrics for monitoring fetal development, in cardiology to assess heart function, and in abdominal imaging to examine organs. Therapeutic ultrasound, on the other hand, employs ultrasound for treatment purposes, such as breaking up kidney stones (lithotripsy) or for physical therapy to promote tissue healing and reduce pain.

Beyond healthcare, industrial ultrasound finds widespread use. Ultrasonic cleaning utilizes cavitation, the formation and collapse of tiny bubbles in a liquid, to dislodge contaminants from surfaces. Ultrasonic welding is a solid-state joining process that uses high-frequency mechanical vibrations to create a weld between two parts. Non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, like ultrasonic inspection, are employed to detect internal flaws or defects in materials and structures without causing damage. In agriculture, ultrasonic pest repellers are sometimes used, though their efficacy is debated. The principles of sonar, which stands for Sound Navigation and Ranging, are also based on ultrasonic waves, used for underwater navigation and object detection.
