UVkõvenemise, also known as UV curing or UV drying, is a process that uses ultraviolet light to initiate a photochemical reaction that rapidly hardens or cures inks, coatings, or adhesives. This method is distinct from thermal drying, which relies on heat to evaporate solvents.

The core principle of UVkõvenemise involves specially formulated substances containing monomers and oligomers that are sensitive to UV radiation. When exposed to specific wavelengths of UV light, these molecules undergo a rapid polymerization process, forming a solid, cross-linked network. This transformation occurs in seconds or even fractions of a second.

The advantages of UVkõvenemise include its speed, which significantly increases production efficiency. It also offers a low-VOC (volatile organic compound) solution, as many UV-curable formulations contain little to no solvent, contributing to a more environmentally friendly process. Furthermore, UV-cured materials often exhibit excellent scratch resistance, chemical resistance, and durability.

Common applications for UVkõvenemise are widespread and include printing (e.g., labels, packaging, graphic arts), wood coatings, automotive finishes, electronics manufacturing (e.g., conformal coatings, adhesives), and dental materials. The process requires specialized UV lamps and the appropriate UV-curable materials to be effective.
