UPSen

UPSen is a term that typically refers to an Uninterruptible Power Supply, often colloquially shortened. An Uninterruptible Power Supply is an electrical device that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source, typically the main utility power, fails. It is a battery-powered device that activates when the primary power source is lost, providing enough power for a device to shut down safely or to continue running for a limited time until a generator or another backup power source can be brought online.

UPS systems are commonly used to protect computers, servers, data centers, telecommunication equipment, and other critical electronic devices from power outages, voltage fluctuations, and other power disturbances. The primary function of a UPS is to prevent data loss and hardware damage that can occur during unexpected power interruptions. They range in size and capacity from small units designed for a single computer to large industrial systems that can power entire buildings.

The technology behind UPS systems includes various types, such as standby, line-interactive, and online (double-conversion). Each type offers different levels of protection and power conditioning. Standby UPS units are the most basic, switching to battery power only when a power failure is detected. Line-interactive UPS units offer some voltage regulation in addition to battery backup. Online UPS units provide the highest level of protection by continuously supplying power to the load from their inverter, with the utility power only used to charge the batteries.
